Call for Student Posters

The Rural Practitioners of Texas Conference invites medical and healthcare students to submit abstracts for the Student Poster Session on March 28, 2026. This is a valuable opportunity to present work, strengthen academic portfolios, and engage with rural health leaders. 

 

Eligibility 

  • Open to students in medicine, nursing, nurse practitioner, PA, pharmacy, public health, social work, and allied health fields. 

  • Individual or group submissions (up to 4 student authors). 

  • Faculty mentorship welcomed but not required. 

Poster Topic Areas 

Projects must relate to rural health. A focus on rural health in Texas is encouraged.

 

Examples include:

  • Clinical or health services research in rural populations
  • Quality improvement or program evaluation in rural settings
  • Case reports from rural or resource-limited environments
  • Community or public health initiatives
  • Rural health workforce or education projects
  • Telehealth and innovation supporting rural access

Word Limit: 250–300 words

  7. Include the presenting student’s name, discipline, and email.

Poster Format Requirements 

  • Recommended Size: 36” x 48” (horizontal or vertical). 

  • Font Guidelines: Minimum 24 pt for body text; 32–48 pt for headings. 

  • Posters should include: 

  • Title & authors 

  • Introduction / Background 

  • Methods / Approach 

  • Results / Outcomes 

  • Discussion / Conclusions 

  • Rural relevance summary 

  • Acknowledgements (optional) 

Design Tips 

  • Use visuals (graphs, photos, charts) when possible. 

  • Avoid dense text; aim for clarity and readability from 4–6 feet away. 

  • Consider a QR code for supplemental materials. 

 

Presentation Day Details – March 28, 2026 

  • Posters will be displayed all day on March 28. 

  • Presenters must be available during the assigned judging/viewing block. 

  • At least one presenter must be present for group posters. 

  • Posters must remain up for the full session. Shape

Judging Rubric Overview 

Each poster will be evaluated on the following (1–5 scale): 

A. Relevance to Rural Health 

  • Addresses a significant issue in rural care. 

B. Clarity of Objectives & Background 

  • Clearly stated problem and rationale. 

C. Methods / Approach 

  • Appropriate design with adequate detail. 

D. Results / Outcomes & Interpretation 

  • Clear findings supported by data or observations. 

E. Impact, Innovation, & Practical Significance 

  • Potential benefit to rural patients or systems. 

F. Visual Design & Organization 

  • Logical layout, readable text, effective visuals. 

G. Oral Presentation (if applicable) 

  • Presenter clarity, confidence, and engagement during judging. 

Awards may include:

  • Best Overall Poster
  • Best Rural Innovation
  • Best Community Health Project
  • Audience Choice (optional) 

Student FAQ

Who may submit a poster? 

Any health professions student with a project related to rural health. 

 

Can I submit a work in progress? 

Yes, as long as your abstract clearly outlines objectives, methods, and expected outcomes. 

 

What types of projects are accepted? 

Research, QI projects, case reports, community/public health projects, educational innovations, telehealth initiatives, and more. 

 

How do I submit? 

Email a 250–300 word abstract (PDF or Word) to med-ruralmedicine@tamu.edu using the subject line provided above. 

 

Can I include co-authors or faculty mentors? 

Yes—up to 4 student co-authors and any number of mentors. 

 

What is the required poster size? 

36” x 48” recommended, horizontal or vertical. 

 

Do I need to stand by my poster? 

Yes, during the designated judge review session on March 28. 

 

Are awards given? 

Yes, based on the judging rubric.
